Walking Distance
The Hôtel d'Angleterre’s location on the seafront promenade makes it an ideal spot for walkers. The vast pebble beach is right opposite, and it’s bracing to walk along the shore while picking your way through some interesting stones before stopping to admire the magnificent white cliffs. You can walk the whole length of the promenade from the crowded entrance of the port up to the base of the Cap Fagnet cliffs, always enjoying that delightful tang of salt on much open-to-sea-space side.
The very heart of Fécamp’s maritime life, the port is but a short 5-10 minute walk from the hotel. Here you can see the fishing boats bring their daily catch; yachts and marina line the quays alongside numerous excellent seafood restaurants where you can dine. Town’s most celebrated attraction, the amazing Palais Bénédictine, an extraordinary palace in which the world famous Bénédictine liqueur distillery is trove, stands also just 10 minutes’ walking distance and is an absolute must for a visit.
Most of the town with its shops and bakeries, and the Historic Trinity Abbey can be reached from the seafront by a pleasant 15-20 min walk. If you are interested in culture, there is the Musée des Pêcheries (Fisheries Museum), which stands about a 15-minute walk further on and is a rare experience to view the panoramic views from its rooftop terrace, I mean it’s housed in a former fish-drying factory. All in all, this is good ‘walkability,’ since you can park your car and then tour most of the ‘must-see’ attractions in Fécamp by walking.
